BEN'S STORY

Add Text Here...

Benjamin Walker Denton was born full term on Saturday, September 26th, 2015. I had no complications all throughout my pregnancy. For all we knew Ben was going to be born just like our first born, happy and healthy. At 11:29pm Ben was born not breathing. He had to be resuscitated and was taken to the NICU of the delivery hospital. After a long couple of hours the NICU decided he had to be transported to a higher level NICU. In a matter of minutes, little did we know, our lives would change forever. A very unexpected trip. Ben had many doctors, many tests and they were still unable to give us any definitive diagnosis. We were in the NICU for 3 full months. Many people we met had been there even longer. Ben’s amazing doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, etc were able to make IT happen-Ben came home on Christmas day. A gift that can never be topped!

Continuing to visit doctors and go to follow-ups, we started to get into a routine. A routine that consisted of giving Ben shots, giving him meds by syringes, and concocting a special diet made up by the NICU team and followed by a special dietician. He had a DNA test that we had hoped would guarantee us a diagnosis. Fortunately we were given another four and a half months with Ben. We had to take Ben to the hospital at the end of April 2016 for what we thought would be just another visit to the ER. We thought we would come home just like all the other visits. This visit was different and very unexpected. The doctors told us that the special diet that had essentially been keeping him alive was destroying his other organs. We were given another several days with Ben, with which we soaked up as much time with him as we could. Ben passed away on May 6th, 2016 with his mommy and daddy by his side. With all of the unexpected events that occurred within Ben’s seven and a half months of life, we want to make a difference in the lives of parents who are forced to experience these same types of unforeseen events.
